MAS Holdings recognizes Best Overall Students at Local Universities for the 6th consecutive year

For the sixth consecutive year, MAS Holdings recognized and rewarded fifteen of the most  academically gifted and exceptionally motivated students from local universities, at the Award Ceremony for Best Overall Student on the 20th of August 2012, held at the Cinnamon Grand  Hotel. These students were lauded not only for their academic excellence, but were also commended for taking initiatives to acquire other competencies essential for the corporate  world.

Disciplines eligible for the award include the Department of Textile & Apparel Engineering  (University of Moratuwa), Department of Industrial Management (University of Kelaniya), Department of Production Engineering (University of Peradeniya) and the National Diploma in Technology.

The Vice Chancellor from the University of Moratuwa, Professor Ananda Jaywardene delivered the key note address, while the award ceremony was also attended by senior members of MAS Holdings including the Chairman, Deshamanya Mahesh Amalean. Parents of award winners and other invitees also graced the occasion. The Award the Best Overall Student was initiated in 2006 at the University of Moratuwa, and was subsequently introduced to the University of Kelaniya and Peradeniya in 2009. Forty Four students were recipients of the award in the past, and over twenty five of these students are currently employed at MAS Holdings. MAS Holdings has forged a strong relationship with these universities over the last few years and has given opportunities to over 800 to receive industrial training at our world-class facilities. Students from these departments are currently employed in fields ranging from Lean Manufacturing, Operations, Planning, Human Resources, Finance and IT.

The “Ready to Unleash Programme” is another initiative that includes a two day residential workshop for all students prior to commencing on internships with MAS. The main objective of this programme is to equip students with the tools and expectations of the corporate sector. MAS also supports the development of marketable graduates through industry guest lectures, competency building workshops and mentoring programmes.
